NOT SO BASIC

This was an interesting installation. The customer had an old DNC system connected to 5 drills.  He wanted to add 7 more machines.  The problem was cost. To extend his existing system he needed to update all 7 machines to DNC 1.3, add a second, 8 port card in the computer, and find room for 14 more short haul modems. The estimated total cost exceeded $20,000. For that he would have received a state-of-the-art, DNC,"network" circa 1975.

California Software Systems plugged about $100 of new parts in the computer, installed Windows 98, and loaded our DNC File Server System. Surplus parts from another company were installed in 3 drills to enable DNC 1.3.   That covered the first 8 machines (Drilling Area).

We then installed computers on the four remaining machine and loaded our Graphical Drill/Route System. All the computer were connected together by extending the standard Microsoft network already installed in the CAM department.

The customer received the power of our Graphical System where he really needed it - first articles, fabrication, and rework. The modern network used in the rest of his facility was extended to drilling and fabrication - and he saved more than $5,000.
